At YouSoapia we feel it is important for people to be informed about the products they buy. Whatever products you choose to use, check ingredients. Learn what those ingredients are, especially the ones you can’t pronounce. “There are no industry standards for what "natural" means. The product may contain all natural ingredients, just a few natural ingredients added to a synthetic product or no natural ingredients at all 1.” You have to decide what “natural” means to you.

Many people choose bath products based on the smell or appearance; some people choose products based on their principles; others for health reasons; but whatever the reason, each person needs to have good information on which to base their decision.

We believe that YouSoapia products will appeal to all people. If you are just looking for a pretty, great smelling soap, we have that. If you want environmentally friendly products, then we’re for you. If you have certain health conditions, we offer soaps without synthetic ingredients and caustic chemicals, but with essential oils traditionally accepted to help certain ailments.

For starters, be sure you look for natural handmade soap: not “moisturizing bars”, not “deodorant bars”, not “beauty bars”, not “antibacterial bars”, but genuine “soap”, which can not be put on the label unless it is really “soap”, and even then it can still be a soap with chemicals added.

Soap, as defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is: “a cleansing and emulsifying agent made usually by action of alkali on fat or fatty acids and consisting essentially of sodium or potassium salts of such acids”. Yes, it is a chemical reaction between the fat and acid called saponification, but that is the end of anything chemical. Think of hydrogen and oxygen combining chemically and producing pure water before any minerals, chlorine or chemicals are added.

Next, decide what “natural” means to you. Using animal fat (tallow, also listed as sodium tallowate), FD&C coloring, a pinch of herbs and a synthetic flower or fruity fragrance is not our meaning of natural. Our fats are plant based like olive, coconut, Palm and castor oils. Our coloring comes from the plants and herbs, clays and naturally derived earth pigments. Our fragrances come from essential oils which are natural botanical extracts that possess the physical and emotional healing properties used in ancient herbalism.
